Women's Self Defense Class

Most people never take the time to learn even the most basic self defense concepts. Learning self-defense is not a matter of being paranoid or living in a state of fear or anxiety. It is about recognizing that dangers to your personal safety do exist. Ignorance does not contribute to your personal safety. Instead, knowledge is the key. The mind is your most powerful self-defense tool. Much like a computer, if the brain is not programmed with how to respond to a situation, it cannot react.
On Wednesday, April 24, 17 women from Central New York participated in a Women's Self Defense class presented by the American Martial Arts Institute in conjunction with Secure Living Online. The seminar was taught by Secure Living Online's board of directors, Grandmaster Crandall, Master Stalloch, Master Jessee and Master Freleigh with assistance from Secure Living Staff, Master Chuff, Master Morris, Mrs. Stalloch and Mrs. Crandall. Several American Martial Arts Institute instructors assisted as well.
The class focused on self defense techniques against a variety of assault scenarios including grabs, knife and gun attacks. The participants were divided into smaller groups which rotated during the seminar with multiple instructors per group for individualized attention. The techniques presented are documented in the book Women's Self Defense in a Changing World by Master Lynn Jessee and Grandmaster Clifford Crandall, Jr.
The next seminar will be in the Fall.
