Master Eric Stalloch - My Successor in American Eagle Style

by Grandmaster Clifford Crandall, Jr.

The time will come when I am gone, but the knowledge and philosophy that was shared with me in my training will continue to be available to those who wish to train in the old way.  The school does not exist here as a business, but rather a vessel which holds and maintains the martial arts, its traditions and values for generations to come.  In my years of teaching I have been fortunate to have many outstanding men and women train and study under me.  One has stood out, and I have accepted him as an apprentice who I trust and believe will carry my school, style and philosophy into the future as I would myself.  This difficult task will be undertaken by Master Eric Stalloch, my top student.   I have passed on to him more of my thoughts, desires, and dreams regarding the American Martial Arts Institute and American Eagle Style than any other student I have ever trained.  My belief is that, with everything that I have shared with him and what he has learned, the world can continue to change yet he will make decisions that keep the school on course as a traditional school that expects its students to seek out and achieve their fullest potential.

This may seem like an impossible task, but Master Stalloch’s background and commitment to tradition will make it possible.  He is an educator and a martial artist.  His educational background centers on his Permanent New York State Teaching Certificate with over 18 years of experience teaching biology to students in grades 10 – 12.  He has a Master’s Degree from Syracuse University in Science Education.   He has ventured into the study of forensics and firearm identification with an emphasis on self-defense and legal justification.

As of 2007 he became the proprietor of our full-time training location for the American Martial Arts Institute.   He is ranked as one of my advanced students in Takenouchi-Hangan-Ryu-Matsuno-Crandall, the study of traditional Iaido.   Master Stalloch’s proficiency and love of the cane resulted in him being one of the three co-founders of the American Eagle Cane Style,  In 2019, Grandmaster Crandall and Master Lynn Jessee chose to elevate him to the position of Headmaster for the American Eagle Cane Style in which he holds the rank of 10th degree black belt and he now heads that style.

Master Stalloch has taken on the responsibility to maintain and continue to improve our school’s website, which is available online through any mobile device.  Along this same line he is the co-founder for SecureLiving.Org, a website which presents health, awareness, and personal safety seminars for people of all ages and capabilities. Secure Living Online seminars have been featured in international media including MSNBC’s TodayShow.com and Combat Magazine.  He has partnered with me to teach seminars for individuals who are blind or visually impaired, as well as seminars for personal safety of children, teenagers, adult men and women, active seniors, and people with mobility challenges.  He has written articles published in Taekwondo Times, Inside Kung Fu, Combat, Action Martial Arts Magazine, and other world-recognized publications. Master Stalloch has co-authored and produced a number of books and DVDs, which are described on our website and can be purchased through Amazon.com.

The important point is that Master Stalloch has not stopped in his constant pursuit to arm the minds of not just our students but the world with the knowledge to help keep people safe.   My goal is now his - to give the general public self-confidence to stay safe in our ever-changing world.
