On Saturday, January 22nd, 2011, Grandmaster Crandall, black belt instructors, and their guests (20 in total) represented the American Martial Arts Institute at the Action Martial Arts Magazine International Hall of Honors. The Hall of Honors is run by Master Alan Goldberg. In 2000, Grandmaster Crandall was inducted to this Hall of Fame for "Outstanding Contributions to the martial arts by a Grandmaster," and in 2009, he was featured in a cover-story in Action Martial Arts Magazine. The event featured a full day of 60 seminars, a tradeshow, and culminated in the evening banquet with 1,500 martial artists from around the world (32 countries in attendance) .
Grandmaster Shuey was also in attendance. Under Grandmaster Crandall's supervision, two of his black belts, Mr. Stalloch and Mrs. Jessee, are also certified CaneMasters in the American Cane System (founded and under the direction of Grandmaster Shuey). Mr. Stalloch and Mrs. Jessee assisted Grandmaster Shuey throughout the day by working at his exhibit and answering questions from the hundreds of martial artists that stopped to learn more. They also assisted him in teaching a one-hour CaneMasters seminar. Several instructors from the American Martial Arts Instiute attended the seminar along with martial artists from a vareity of other schools. While there are many different styles and schools, the martial arts brings people together in a shared enthusiasm of learning.
Grandmaster Crandall also took time to get all of the instructors together for a training session in one of the banquet hall rooms. This included teaching the American Eagle Style kata Gauntlet, the form created and documented by Master Cheryl Freleigh as part of her 7th-degree black belt exam. The kata is not required to test for a belt rank at this time, but now part of the school's history and can be learned by some black belts.
It was an exciting weekend for those from the school who were able to attend and spend time together. A group picture was taken at the end of the evening.
