Travis Donley is a 4th degree black belt instructor for the American Martial Arts Institute who currently resides in Michigan. He has trained under his instructor, Grandmaster Clifford C. Crandall, Jr, for more than 18 years and began skydiving in 2003. He joined Team Fastrax in 2007 and has since had the opportunity to perform demonstration and tandem skydives all over the world. Travis has over 2400 skydives, has jumped the world’s largest American Flag ever flown under a parachute (7800 ft2) and is the chief instructor at StartSkydiving.com in Middletown, OH.

On June 18, 1998 Grandmaster Clifford C. Crandall Jr., successfully established a Guinness World Record ™ by breaking a 1”x12”x10” pine board with a bare-handed lunge punch at an altitude of 5,200 feet above the ground, in a time of 29 seconds after leaving the plane, while freefalling belly-to-earth at a rate of 120 MPH. The premise for the record setting skydive was, “It shouldn’t be safer to jump out of an airplane and punch through a board than it is for a child to walk home from school.”

More than ten years later, the world has grown smaller through advances in technology and transportation. Our children face smarter more aggressive predators which require higher levels of awareness and education. In response to the increased difficulty to keep our children safe, the new record attempt will also increase in difficulty. Travis Donley broke two 1”x12”x10” pine boards held by separate holders (he executed the break, turned 180°, then executed second break) while freefalling horizontal to the ground at a rate of 120 miles per hour in just 27 seconds (for both breaks).

The goal of the record breaking event was to bring child safety back to the forefront of consciousness and make it a priority in everyone’s lives while updating the current Guinness World Record ™.

According to the US Department of Justice:
  • 797,500 children (younger than 18) were reported missing in a one-year period of time studied resulting in an average of 2,185 children being reported missing each day.
  • 203,900 children were the victims of family abductions.
  • 58,200 children were the victims of non-family abductions.
  • 115 children were the victims of “stereotypical” kidnapping.

Research indicates that 1 in 5 girls and 1 in 10 boys will be sexually victimized before adulthood.
Today there are nearly 600,000 registered sex offenders in the United States. Approximately 100,000 still remain undetected having been “lost” in the system or by failing to comply with registration duties.

The record attempt was covered by two magazines, five news stations, and several other media outlets. We will have footage and more coverage of this event posted on this website in the coming weeks as it is released to the public. Congratulations to Mr. Donley for successfully breaking the world record on June 20th, 2010.
