The American Martial Arts Institute's main office and full-time location moved into its new training center in January 2010. The expanded location was specifically designed as a martial arts training center, focused on professional martial arts training and community safety programs. It is also the main office for the American Martial Arts Institute styles for American Eagle Style, Takenouchi-Hangan-Ryu-Matsuno-Crandall Iaido, and American Cane System.
The new location includes two full training hall floors, an office, a conference room, an observation area for parents and guests, separate changing rooms for men and women, an instructor's area, four bathrooms, full handicap accessibility, a reception area, and is fully outfitted with professional martial arts training equipement.
The location at 8382 Seneca Turnpike in New Hartford, New York is next door to their previous location. The American Martial Arts Institute is under the direction of Grandmaster Clifford C. Crandall, Jr. Chief Instructor Eric Stalloch is the proprietor of the New Hartford location and oversaw its move and expansion.
"The move to this expanded training center is an exciting moment in the school's continued growth," said Chief Instructor Stalloch. "I am pleased to be a part of this growth, but it is important to remember that none of this would have been possible without the years that Grandmaster Crandall spent teaching classes across New York State in different facilities in order to open the first full-time training locations of the American Martial Arts Institute. I am proud to be able to build on the foundation that he, and the instructors that came before me, established."
Grandmaster Crandall has over 45 years of martial arts experience and has been teaching martial arts in Central New York for over 35 years. He currently teaches at the new training center and main location several days each week. The move to the expanded training center further establishes the American Martial Arts Institute as a traditional school with long-term stablity in the community. With over 20 adult black belt instructors at the main location alone and others across New York State, the American Martial Arts Institute is making a real positive difference in the lives of men, women, and children every day.
After months of planning and construction, work in cooperation with the town of New Hartford, the planning board, and the codes department, the facility was ready. The walls and school colors had been painted weeks prior by instructors from New Hartford, Albany, and Rochester. On January 16th, 2010, instructors, black belt students, and brown belts over the age of 21 came to help move the school into its new home. Equipment was moved, mirrors and pictures were hung, furniture was arragned and assembled, and dozens of other jobs were performed to prepare for the first classes.
Many instructors and black belts worked for months to make the new location possible. Many students offered their time and assistance on the moving day. Grandmaster Crandall and Chief Instructor Stalloch thank everyone who gave freely of their time and skills, but they want to thank one man in particular, Mr. Bob Spear. Bob Spear is the building's landlord, and his time spent working behind the scenes, late nights, weekends, and at all hours were incredible. His creativity, professionalism, and attention to detail were key in seeing our new training center become a reality.
Classes are now being held at the new training center along with all brown belt and black belt testings. With two full training hall floors, the school has expanded its programs including cane self-defense classes, traditional iaido (sword) classes, programs for seniors (55 years and older), programs for 3,4, and 5 year olds, non-ranking martial arts classes, empty-hand martial arts classes for ages 6-12 and classes for 13 and older, women's self-defense, and much more.
