The American Martial Arts Institute currently has two full-time training halls, one in New Hartford and the other in Albany, New York. The New Hartford location is designated as the main location because it is where the head of the school, Grandmaster Clifford C. Crandall, Jr., teaches classes most often. Having two full-time locations allows the school's students and instructors to teach and train in a positive environment that is used only for martial arts training. The training hall is a special place. It is where the outside world can be forgotten for a time and the students can dedicate themselves to their training. During the year both locations are maintained by the instructors who teach there.
One day each year students are invited to join the instructors in the care for the school. This year the main location held its cleaning day on Saturday, May 3rd. Together the students worked alongside instructors taking care of the home where they train year-round. Some of the cleaning included: replacing the interior and exterior light bulbs, replacing ceiling tiles, washing mats, kicking bags, and shields, painting, cleaning bathrooms, washing interior and exterior windows, washing and dusting walls, vacuuming and using a carpet cleaner on the main floor, washing the furniture and display cabinets, sweeping the parking lot, and much more. Through their combined efforts, the school's clean and professional atmosphere was enhanced and maintained.
Some instructors were unable to attend the cleaning day due to other obligations, but they came at other times to help clean and care for the school during the week. Instructors and students who made time to help this year included: Grandmaster Crandall, Dr. Chuff, Mrs. Freleigh, Mr. E. Stalloch, Mr. Cummings, Mr. T. Stalloch, Mrs. M. Stalloch, Mrs. G. Stalloch, Mr. Fiore, Miss Catera, Miss Krukonis, Mr. Sacco, Amanda Peterson, Sabrina Kowalski, Michael Dubiel, Ed Wodyla, Loretta Collins, Jim Fryer, Morgan Weber, and Mark Devoldre. We concluded at 2:00 p.m. A special thanks goes out to Mark Spiridigliozzi for spending time at the school during the week cleaning and replacing the filters on the air conditioning units on the roof, and to Joe Fiore and Paul Lilley for spending additional time replacing bulbs on the roof sign. Thank-you to all who helped.
