On June 5th and 6th the village of Fairport
held its annual Canal Days festival, and once again the instructors and
students from the Fairport location training hall joined in the celebration.
As always, the event had a great turnout, with thousands visiting the
many displays and booths over the course of the weekend. Our school had
a display tent again this year, which included information about the school
and style as well as significant events from the past year. Instructors
staffing the display spoke to hundreds of people and handed out information
about our school and its programs.

The students and instructors performed in two demonstrations over, one
each afternoon. Students displayed their skills in punching, kicking,
basic forms, and katas, and also executed successful board breaks. Instructors
demonstrated self-defense skills, weapons katas, breaking, and meditation.
Present for the entire weekend were senior instructor and Fairport location
co-owner Ann Colasurdo, instructor and Fairport location co-owner Mark
Sanson, instructor Jim Colasurdo, and staff member Cindy Prentice. It
was also a real pleasure to have instructor Jesse Merrill, currently living
in Pennsylvania, assist with the weekend’s events. Students Jim
Candela, Heidi Prentice, and Christina Prentice participated in the demonstrations.

Board breaks – 1st the students...

… and then the instructors.
The
demonstrations concluded with a variety of meditation breaks
(don’t try these at home!):

Mr. Merrill relaxes on a bed of nails…

Miss Colasurdo walks on broken glass and breaks
a board…

Mr. Sanson walks on broken glass and breaks a concrete
block.
It was a great weekend filled with fun for everyone
involved.
