"THE FIRST STEP IN THE SCHOOLS OF NEW YORK" Today, Grand Master Clifford Crandall, took the first step toward educating ALL children
in escape techniques. The Whitesboro School District, using a New York State Education Grant
of over $6,000, began the instruction of the twelve members of their Physical Education
Department in the THE CRANDALL SYSTEM. The teachers were certified
to instruct their classes in the escape techniques presented in the seminar pamphlet and
videotape "Children's Self-Defense and Awareness". Over the course of the morning the teachers
viewed the tape, and were then shown demonstrations of the techniques performed by two members of the
American Martial Arts Demonstration Team, Nick Lomuscio and Erika White and three black belts,
Mr. David Phillips, Master Jill Crandall and Grand Master Clifford C. Crandall Jr. After they were shown how it was done, it was their turn. The attendees stepped onto the floor and began learning the moves first hand. Although some admitted that they had their doubts before trying the moves themselves, after they had, all agreed that the techniques are effective, no matter the size of the opponent. By the end of the morning, there was a noticeable excitement in these professionals. The unanimous opinion was that this was the most useful instructional seminar they had ever attended. ![]() Instead of trying to instruct the students in just one session, the techniques will be worked into the regular physical education curriculum. This is so, because it will then spread the lessons out over the course of the year. The teachers attending the seminar were: Mary Ann Horodnick, Thomas DiGiorgio, Linda La Duc, Bernie Law, Sally Pardee, Barb Quackenbush, Tom Schoen, Jack Silvestri, Mike Wuest, Jackie Wuest, Jason Izzo. Whitesboro Administration who wrote the grant and were also in attendance were Kathy Davis, Brian McQueen and Michael Deuel. ![]() ![]() |
